The Philadelphia 76ers have decided to halt discussions regarding a potential trade involving James Harden and are preparing to have him participate in their training camp this September, as per a report from Castnews

This recent episode of trade speculation surrounding Harden began when he exercised his player option for the 2023-24 season worth $35.6 million in June. Despite his reported desire to be traded to the LA Clippers, the 76ers engaged in intermittent talks with the Los Angeles team regarding a trade. However, no significant progress has been made towards an agreement, with the 76ers prioritizing a trade that won’t negatively impact their chances of contending for a championship.

This marks the third occasion since the 2020-21 season’s commencement that Harden has expressed a desire for a trade. Initially, he was moved from the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets in January 2021. Approximately one year later, in February 2022, the Nets traded Harden to the 76ers.

During his first complete season with the 76ers, Harden, who is turning 34 later in August, showcased strong performance levels. He achieved an average of 21 points per game and led the league with an impressive 10.7 assists per game, solidifying his status as one of the premier offensive guards in the league.

Despite these achievements, both Harden and the 76ers faced disappointment in the playoffs this past season. Following a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics, the team lost the subsequent two games, with Harden contributing only 11 points across those defeats.

The combined factors of the 76ers’ inability to progress to the Eastern Conference finals and Harden’s underwhelming playoff performance fueled speculation about the potential conclusion of his tenure in Philadelphia. Early reports indicated a potential return to the Houston Rockets, but this scenario did not materialize.

Consequently, the 76ers are now gearing up for what could become an uncomfortable situation, as Harden has strongly expressed his desire for a trade.
